Dr. Giacconi was the co-recipient of the 2002 Nobel Prize in Physics along with Dr. Raymond Davis, Jr. from the University of Pennsylvania and Masatoshi Koshiba from the University of Tokyo for "pioneering contributions to astrophysics, which led to the discovery of cosmic x-ray sources."
