At the HBCU Physics Department Chairs meeting we will follow-up on items from the last meeting held in Hampton in May 2011. We will discuss new academic opportunities in medical physics, large-dataset analysis, and with the Square Kilometer Array in Africa. NSBP has been developing a national recruiting program where we can specifically identify African American G8-12 students that have articulated an interest in physics. We can identify these students on a per zip code basis, and cross-correlate them with their articulated college interests such that we can develop them as future enrollees in our respective programs. Also on the agenda will be the prospect of implementing a regime of program assessment and evaluation, and a student-centered certification with the intent of ensuring that our physics graduates are competitive for every possible career opportunity, including admissions the most selective graduate programs, or the most competitive corporate jobs.
