Exhibitor Floor Plan and Booth Registration Form (page1, page2)
Conference Description
The joint NSBP/NSHP conference is a
cutting-edge scientific meeting with over 120 oral and poster
presentations. There is also a student professional program
which includes mentor-protégé match-making and a
recruiting fair.
With well over 500
attendees, comprised
of students, postdoctoral research associates, and
faculty/professional attendees, the NSBP/NSHP annual conference is
the largest gathering of African American and Hispanic American
physicists and physics students in the world. We thus offer
exhibitors unparalleled opportunities to interact with and recruit
talented students, internship/fellowship candidates, researcher
collaborators and program participants.
Exhibitor Schedule
Exhibitors and recruiters can start moving in on the morning of Wednesday,
February 11. The exhibition/recruiter
fair begins on Wednesday evening with the opening reception.
(The reception is in the exhibit hall.) The exhibition/recruiter
fair runs all day Thursday and Friday. The conference coffee
breaks are in the exhibit hall, as is another reception on Thursday
evening.
Move out time is on Friday, February 13 after 5pm.
Attendee Profile
Student attendance at this conference has
nearly doubled since
2002. In 2008 we expect nearly 400 student attendees.
Typically there will be a 50-50 split of graduate and undergraduate
students. Of the undergraduate students 10% will be first year
students, 25% will be sophomores, 25% juniors and 40% seniors.
Of the graduate students over 50% will be post-candidacy Ph.D.
students.
Amongst
the undergraduate students the gender distribution will
most likely be 50-50, but at the graduate level 70% of the students
will be male. This proportion of women is apparently higher
than what is present in the total physics student population.
Most
of the students are highly inclined to attend graduate
school, most commonly in physics. Most would intend to pursue a
traditional physics research career in academia or at a government
lab. But clearly if given alternative career information, many
are open to other options.
Nearly
200 professors and other scientists attend the conference
as well. Many will be employed at HBCU’s and other
minority universities. Most will have some level of purchasing
authority for instructional material and research equipment.
